What are Stem Cells?

What Role do Stem Cells Play in Regenerative Medicine?

In a nutshell, stem cells are “unspecialized cells” that have the capability of developing into a specialized cell (i.e muscle cell)

(Citation 3)

As opposed to the traditional practice of the use of medicine to ‘manage’ symptoms, regenerative medicine is “the process of creating living, functional tissues to repair or replace tissue or organ function lost dues to age, disease, damage or congenital defects.”

(Citation 1,2)

Because stem cells have the potential to specialize into any of the various cells in the human body, the possibilities they bring to regenerative medicine are endless.
